West Virginia’s 2024 recruiting class is taking shape. The early signing period gets underway on Dec. 20, but Neal Brown and his coaching staff have already pieced together a large portion of the next wave of Mountaineers.

Obinna Onwuka

• Position: Edge
• Height/Weight: 6-3, 236 lbs
• High School: Charles Herbert Flowers (Upper Marlboro, Maryland)

Onwuka, who verbally committed to West Virginia on June 9, is WVU’s highest-rated commit in the 2024 class, according to 247Sports. Onwuka is somewhere between a three-and-four-star defensive lineman, depending on what recruiting service you look at, and is regarded as one of the 15 best players in Maryland by all major recruiting sites. He made his official visit to WVU on June 3 and announced his commitment six days later.

Rickey Williams

• Position: LB
• Height/Weight: 6-2, 215 lbs
• High School: Archbishop Hoban High School (Akron, Ohio)

When Williams committed to the Mountaineers on June 19, he became the second-highest-rated verbal commit in WVU’s 2024 class at the time. Rated a three-star linebacker product by 247Sports, Rivals, and On3.com, he is viewed as a top-20 player in the state of Ohio, according to his 247Sports composite rating. Jeff Koonz was the primary recruiter in the chase for Williams. The Akron native committed to WVU 10 days after making his official visit on June 9.

Brandon Rehmann

• Position: WR
• Height/Weight: 6-1, 180 lbs
• High School: St. Joseph’s Prep School (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)

Rehmann committed to West Virginia on June 13, continuing a string of 2024 commitments for the Mountaineers. He is a three-star prospect according to 247Sports, ESPN, and On3.com, though Rivals rates him as a four-star wideout. Rehmann attends the renowned St. Joseph’s Prep School in Philadelphia, which has produced the likes of D’Andre Swift, Marvin Harrison Jr., and Rich Gannon, among others. Chad Scott and Bilal Marshall helped convince Rehmann to pick West Virginia over competing schools, such as Louisville, Maryland, Oregon, Penn State, and Pittsburgh.

Keyshawn Robinson

• Position: WR/ATH
• Height/Weight: 5-11, 175 lbs
• High School: Jefferson (Shenandoah Junction, West Virginia)

Robinson is the only in-state product headed to WVU at this point, and he was a key pickup for Neal Brown and his coaching staff. The Jefferson High School product is regarded as the best skill position player in the state in this recruiting cycle. Robinson, a consensus three-star wideout, was WVU’s second 2024 commit, and the first player recruited to WVU by Blaine Stewart.

Makai Byerson

• Position: Edge
• Height/Weight: 6-4, 235 lbs
• High School: Manchester High School (Midlothian, Virginia)

Makai Byerson, son of former WVU basketball forward Brad Byerson,announced that he will be following in his dad’s footsteps and join WVU, but he will compete as a Mountaineer on the football field.

The 6-foot-4-inch, 235-pound edge from Midlothian, Virginia, is a three-star recruit, and the No. 49 ranked edge player in the Class of 2024, per 247Sports. Byerson is also the No. 18 player coming out of Virginia.

Zae Jennings

• Position: Athlete
• Height/Weight: 6-2, 190 lbs
• High School: Winton Woods (Cincinnati, Ohio)

Jennings is the No. 30 recruit in Ohio, and the No. 104 athlete in the country, per 247Sports. According to his Twitter, he collected 1,112 all-purpose yards as a junior at Colerain High School en route to a First-Team All-City nod.

The 6-foot-2-inch, 190-pound dual-threat player takes his snaps at the quarterback position in high school, but he is most dangerous with his legs. He was recruited by defensive coaches Jordan Lesley and Dontae Wright.

Kyle Altuner

• Position: C/OL
• Height/Weight: 6-2, 290 lbs
• High School: Good Counsel (Olney, Maryland)

The Good Counsel High School offensive lineman was June 10’s recruiting announcement, during the start of a string of West Virginia commitments. Altuner is a consensus three-star interior offensive lineman, primarily playing the center position. Altuner made his official visit to West Virginia on June 2. He took a trip to Virginia one week later and announced his commitment to the Mountaineers the following day.

Israel “Jacob” Boyce

• Position: CB
• Height/Weight: 5-11, 180 lbs
• High School: Dougal County (Douglasville, Georgia)

A three-star defensive back with play-making abilities, Boyce became West Virginia’s eighth commitment in the month of June when he verbally committed to WVU on June 15. His recruiting process happened quickly. He received his first offer from the Mountaineers in late May, took an official visit in early June, and then committed nine days later. Boyce, who pitched WVU over interest from Cincinnati and Marshall, among other schools, reportedly collected four interceptions last fall as a high school junior.

Jay’Quan Bostic

• Position: S/WR
• Height/Weight: 6-3, 180 lbs
• High School: Taft (Cincinnati, Ohio)

Bostic announced his commitment to the Mountaineers on July 3, picking West Virginia over offers from Cincinnati, Michigan, Michigan State, Pitt, and others. Bostic is a three-star high school player according to most of the major recruiting websites. He is listed as a safety by some sites, and a wide receiver by others. According to 274Sports’ composite rankings, Bostic is the 35th-best player in the football-rich state of Ohio. Among West Virginia’s 2024 verbal commits, he is the sixth-highest-rated defensive player, or the fourth-highest-rated offensive player.

Jason Cross

• Position: S
• Height/Weight: 6-2, 165 lbs
• High School: Bishop Canevin (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania)

Cross was the second safety to commit to WVU, and he chose West Virginia over Syracuse and Michigan State. He also held offers from other programs including Kentucky, Penn State, Iowa State, Texas A&M, Maryland, Virginia Tech and Marshall.

According to Rivals, Cross, from the Hill District in Pittsburgh, is the No. 33 Pennsylvania prospect and 247 Sports lists him at No. 6 in the state.

Diore Hubbard

• Position: RB
• Height/Weight: 5-10, 185 lbs
• High School: Gahanna Lincoln High School (Columbus, Ohio)

Diore Hubbard may not be the tallest player in the room, but he had one of the biggest seasons of any high school football player in the state of Ohio last fall. Hubbard rushed for 2,365 yards and 20 touchdowns last year as a high school junior. He was a finalist for the Ohio Mr. Football Award. A three-star ball carrier, Hubbard chose the Mountaineers over interest from programs like Boston College, Kentucky, and Marshall.

Romanas Frederique

• Position: CB
• Height/Weight: 6-1, 176 lbs
• High School: Saint Thomas Aquinas High School (Fort Lauderdale, Florida)

Frederique was the second player from the Sunshine State to commit to WVU. He was also the third straight defensive back added to the 2024 class. The three-star prospect received a number of offers from programs in his home state, including FIU, FAU, Florida State, Miami, and new Big 12 member UCF.

Khalil Wilkins

• Position: QB
• Height/Weight: 6-3, 190 lbs
• High School: Dr. Henry Wise (Upper Marlboro, Maryland)

Rated as one of the 25 best players in the state of Maryland, Wilkins is a left-handed dual-threat quarterback. As a high school junior, he completed 62 percent of his passes for 2,255 yards and 20 touchdowns last year. Wilkins, viewed as one of the 60 best players at his position in the country for this recruiting cycle, participated in the Under Armour All-American combine in May.

Nate Gabriel

• Position: DL
• Height/Weight: 6-3, 285 lbs
• High School: Auburndale (Auburndale, Florida)

Gabriel’s verbal commitment on Aug. 10 marked the 20th addition to West Virginia’s 2024 recruiting class. Gabriel is a multi-sport athlete for Auburndale High School, participating in both football and wrestling. On the gridiron, the defensive lineman reportedly tallied an outstanding 26 tackles for loss last season. He received a scholarship offer from the Mountaineers on Aug. 1, and it didn’t take long for the three-star recruit to make his decision.

Elijah Kinsler

• Position: DL
• Height/Weight: 6-3, 260 lbs
• High School: Bergen Catholic (Oradell, New Jersey)

Kinsler was the sixth commit in West Virginia’s 2024 class. The three-star defensive lineman announced his decision to be a Mountaineer in early June. Kinsler could become a WVU fan favorite quickly, as he announced his decision to become a Mountaineer roughly 72 hours after taking his official visit to Pitt.

Chris Henry

• Position: DB/WR
• Height/Weight: 6-0, 185 lbs
• High School: Dunnellon (Dunnellon, Florida)

Henry could possibly fit into multiple roles when he gets to West Virginia. Depending on the recruiting site you click on, the Florida native is listed as a defensive back, a wide receiver, or an athlete. Checking in at an even 6 feet tall, and weighing 185 pounds, Henry needed just one week after making his official visit on June 9 to announce his commitment to the Mountaineers.

Keelan “KJ” Flowe

• Position: S
• Height/Weight: 6-0, 160 lbs
• High School: Julius L. Chambers (Charlotte, North Carolina)

Flowe was the first defensive back to be added to the Class of 2024, and he was mainly in communication with safeties coach Dontae Wright through the recruiting process. Though he does not have any star ratings on recruiting services, he garnered 28 total Division I offers at the time of his commitment in June.

Richard James Jr.

• Position: DL
• Height/Weight: 6-1, 270 lbs
• High School: St. Joe’s Prep/Camden (Camden, New Jersey)

Another New Jersey native as part of this recruiting class, Richard James Jr. committed to West Virginia on May 17, 2022. He was a big get for the Mountaineers, as he picked WVU over offers from Ole Miss, Penn State, and Texas A&M. West Virginia’s coaching staff jumped on him early, and it paid off.

James is a consensus three-star prospect and a top-20 player in the state of New Jersey, according to 247Sports. He was high school teammates with current WVU freshman linebacker Josiah Trotter and fellow recruit Brandon Rehmann.

Jack Sammarco

• Position: TE
• Height/Weight: 6-6, 235 lbs
• High School: Anderson (Cincinnati, Ohio)

Sammarco was West Virginia’s second pass catcher in this recruiting cycle. He is a big target, standing 6 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 235 pounds. He is the fourth highest-rated tight end in Ohio in this recruiting cycle.

Justin Terry

• Position: OT
• Height/Weight: 6-6, 305 lbs
• High School: Pickerington Central (Pickerington, Ohio)

Terry announced his verbal commitment to the Mountaineers on June 29, just over one month after receiving his offer from WVU. Terry is rated as a top 100 player in the state of Ohio by 247Sports. The site gives the highest recruiting grades to the Ohio-based offensive tackle. When he committed, Terry was the second offensive lineman in this recruiting cycle for the Mountaineers.

Curtis Jones Jr.

• Position: LB
• Height/Weight: 6-1, 205 lbs
• High School: Cabell Midland (Huntington, West Virginia)

When Jones announced his commitment to WVU, he was the 19th commit in this year’s recruiting cycle. He is also the latest in-state player that West Virginia has successfully recruited, joining Jefferson High School’s Keyshawn Robinson. Jones Jr. has played running back and linebacker for Cabell Midland over the past two years. He eclipsed 1,000 rushing yards, and scored 11 touchdowns for the Highlanders last year, though is expected to suit up on defense for the Mountaineers.

Keyon Washington

• Position: CB/ATH
• Height/Weight: 6-1, 175 lbs
• High School: St. Charles (Waldorf, Maryland)

Washington became the 20th verbal commitment in the recruiting class, when he announced his decision on October 2. Washington is not nationally rated, but does appear to have good speed. He plays on both sides of the ball and plays a part on special teams, as well, for St. Charles High School. ShaDon Brown and Dontae Wright led the recruiting efforts for WVU.
