Breaking Down the WVU Football Committed Recruits for 2024 (2024)

With some new recruits announcing commitments to the WVU football program this week, the 2024 class is starting to take shape.

West Virginia set out a goal to acquire as much talent as possible, especially at key positions (WR, OL, DL, DB). They did this by looking mostly in their surrounding states of Ohio and Pennsylvania and also heavily and in the south in places like Florida and Georgia. Assistant coaches Bilal Marshall and Blaine Stewart, both added to the coaching staff this offseason, led the recruiting effort for the Mountaineers.

While there’s still plenty of work ahead and there are many players who haven’t committed anywhere weighing offers from West Virginia, here are some notable players who have committed to join WVU after their final high school season next year.

Committed Players for 2024

Nate Gabriel (DL, FL)

Listed at 6-foot-4 and 285 pounds, Nate Gabriel, a defensive line prospect out of Auburndale, Florida, ended up picking West Virginia over offers from several other major programs, including East Carolina, Kansas State, Illinois, South Florida and UCF. Gabriel is ranked as a top 200 Florida product and a three-star by both 247 Sports and On3.com.

Curtis Jones (LB, WV)

Curtis Jones (6-foot-2, 210 pounds), who attends Cabell Midland High School in Ona, WVa. as a 2024 product, just shy of three hours southwest of Morgantown, committed to WVU a month after receiving an official offer.

Diore Hubbard (RB, OH)

Keeping up with its tradition, the WVU football program secures a top running back recruit as class of 2024 product Diore Hubbard commits to the Mountaineers.

Hubbard, who currently attends Gahanna Lincoln High School in Columbus, Ohio, earned a West Virginia offer after having talks with WVU offensive coordinator Chad Scott. He’s rated as a three-star prospect by most outlets, namely 247 Sports.

Class of 2024 defensive end prospect Makai Byerson has committed to the WVU football program.

This comes after he received an offer from West Virginia 10 months ago and then took his official visit earlier this month. Byerson, who is rated as a three-star recruit by multiple outlets, plays for Manchester High School in Midlothian, Virginia.
